Sacramento High School Mandates College Courses for Graduation, Aiming for 100% College Enrollment
Sacramento New Technology Early College High School, part of the Sacramento City Unified School District, has implemented a unique graduation requirement where every student must complete college courses before earning their high school diploma. This initiative is in partnership with Sacramento City College, allowing students to attend college classes during their regular school day. The program is designed to ease the transition to higher education by providing high school students with the experience of navigating a college environment. Principal Jessica Martin highlights that this model is unique in California, with the school boasting a 100% college-going rate. The school currently serves about 150 students, with plans for expansion. Students like Julio Reyes, a junior, have already earned multiple college credits, benefiting from the adult-like treatment and environment of college classes.
