Timor-Leste Launches International Convention Centre to Boost Tourism
Timor-Leste has initiated the construction of a new International Convention Centre in Dili, marking a significant step in enhancing its tourism and events sector. The foundation stone was laid on May 20, 2026, during national independence celebrations, with key figures such as Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and President Jose Ramos-Horta in attendance. The development, located on Dili's old port precinct, will include conference rooms, auditoriums, and exhibition halls, alongside leisure attractions like a pedestrian promenade, an aquarium, and a Ferris wheel. This project is part of Timor-Leste's preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029 and aims to attract high-value meetings and events from across Southeast Asia.
