Bureau of Land Management Ely District Offers Online Christmas Tree-Cutting Permits
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is now offering Christmas tree-cutting permits to the public online. Each permit costs $5, and individuals are limited to purchasing a maximum of 10 permits. These permits allow for the harvesting of Christmas trees on all BLM-administered lands within the district, with the exception of designated wilderness and wilderness study areas. Additionally, specific areas of critical environmental concern, including Blue Mass, Lower Meadow Valley Wash, Mount Irish, Shoshone Ponds, and Swamp Cedar, are off-limits for Christmas tree harvesting. The types of trees that may be harvested are restricted to pinion-pine, juniper, and white fir; cutting any other tree species is prohibited. While online purchases are strongly encouraged, permits can also be acquired in person at the Caliente Field Office located at 1400 South Front Street, Caliente, NV 89008.
