Pope Leo XIV has released a comprehensive encyclical titled 'Magni fica Humanitas,' addressing the ethical implications of artificial intelligence (AI). The document, spanning 42,300 words, calls for government regulation of AI companies, retraining of workers whose jobs are threatened by AI, and the implementation of safeguards to ensure human control over decisions involving weapons and children's online safety. The encyclical emphasizes the importance of human dignity and warns against the dangers of outsourcing human capabilities to machines. Pope Leo XIV presented the encyclical alongside Christopher Olah, co-founder of the AI developer Anthropic, highlighting a dialogue between spiritual and technological leaders.
