Efforts to Identify Missing WWII Soldier Gain Momentum
The remains of an unidentified U.S. soldier, known as 'X-3', have been disinterred in Sitka, Alaska, as part of ongoing efforts to identify over 81,000 missing U.S. service members from past wars. The soldier, who died in a plane crash during World War II, is believed to be one of the many whose remains were never identified. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is using modern scientific techniques, including DNA testing, to attempt identification. This effort is part of a broader mission to provide closure to families of missing service members.
