Russia Bolsters Moscow's Air Defenses Amid Ukrainian Drone Threats Ahead of Victory Day
Russia is reportedly enhancing its air defense systems in Moscow in anticipation of potential Ukrainian drone attacks as the country prepares for its May 9 Victory Day parade. Open-source footage has revealed the movement of S-400 air defense system components through Moscow, though it remains unclear if these are new deployments or repositioned units. Moscow's air defense network is extensive, featuring approximately 100 Pantsir-S1 systems, a smaller number of Tor systems, and around 20 S-400 batteries. These systems are designed to intercept drones, cruise missiles, and higher-altitude threats like ballistic missiles. Despite these preparations, Russia plans to scale back the Victory Day parade, omitting the mechanized column for the first time since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Additional security measures, such as potential mobile communication restrictions, are also under consideration.
