Karen Bass Advances to LA Mayor Runoff Against Pratt or Raman
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has advanced to a November runoff in her bid for reelection. She will face either Spencer Pratt, an independent candidate, or Nithya Raman, a progressive City Councilmember. Bass, a Democrat, led the primary election with 35% of the votes, but did not secure a majority, necessitating a runoff. Pratt, a former reality TV star running as an independent, received 30% of the votes, while Raman garnered 22%. California's jungle primary system allows all candidates to run on a single ballot, with the top two advancing to the general election. The final outcome remains uncertain due to California's slow ballot-counting process.
