Bench Fire at 84% Containment, Round Butte Fire at 56% in Central Oregon
Fire crews in Central Oregon are making progress on two significant wildfires: the Bench Fire and the Round Butte Fire. The Bench Fire, located 4 miles southwest of Warm Springs, Oregon, has burned 67,071 acres and is now 84% contained. It was ignited by lightning on July 23, 2026. Meanwhile, the Round Butte Fire, 5 miles west of Madras, Oregon, has burned 1,163 acres and is 56% contained. This fire started on August 1, 2026, with its cause still under investigation. Both fires remain within their established perimeters, and crews are focusing on securing uncontained lines and mopping up hotspots. Weather conditions, including near-record heat and low humidity, are challenging firefighting efforts. Smoke from multiple wildfires continues to affect the region.
