UK Officials Considered Special 'Red Box' Gift for President Trump, Emails Reveal
Senior British officials debated gifting President Donald Trump a replica 'red box' used by U.K. officials to carry official papers and classified files. This discussion took place just weeks before the former British ambassador to the U.S., Peter Mandelson, was dismissed from his position. Sir Olly Robbins, who was the head of the U.K. Foreign Office from 2025 until earlier this year, suggested that a replica red box tailored to President Trump would be a meaningful gift. The proposed gift was discussed among several senior civil servants, including David Tinline, who mentioned that the box was in production with a presidential seal. The exchanges were released by the U.K. government as part of over 1,000 pages of documents related to Mandelson's appointment as ambassador.
