Report Alleges Over 1,400 Africans Recruited into Russia's War in Ukraine, Raising Concerns
A report by INPACT has revealed that over 1,400 Africans were recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine between 2023 and 2025, with at least 316 reported deaths. This contradicts official Russian denials, as Russian officials have previously stated that African students in Russia were only engaged in academic activities. The report suggests that some recruits were lured with promises of scholarships and employment, only to be redirected into military roles. The findings have raised concerns about the role of cultural and educational centers, known as Russian Houses, which may have served as informal recruitment channels. The report highlights the involvement of countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, with specific figures indicating significant recruitment and fatalities.
