Berea College to Offer Fully Paid, No-Loan Degrees Starting Fall 2027
Berea College, a private liberal arts institution in Kentucky, announced its Financial Freedom Pledge, which will cover 100% of every enrolled student’s tuition, housing, food, and fees without requiring loans, starting in Fall 2027. This initiative expands on the college's existing tuition-free commitment, making Berea the first college in the nation to provide a fully paid, four-year, no-loan degree to all admitted students. The college estimates that the Pledge will cover over $285,000 per student over four years. Founded in 1855, Berea College has not charged tuition since 1892, a model supported by donor contributions, a substantial endowment nearing $2 billion, and its status as a federally recognized work college where students work campus jobs at least 10 hours per week.
