Florida Highway Patrol Investigates Fatal I-4 Crash in Orange County Involving Medical Episode
A 44-year-old Lakeland woman died and a 9-year-old girl was injured in a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 4 in Orange County, Florida, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the I-4 eastbound exit ramp to Daryl Carter Parkway at mile marker 70. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver of a 2017 Honda Accord experienced a possible medical episode, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, strike a curb, and then collide with a concrete traffic barrier before catching fire. The driver was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The 9-year-old passenger was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators noted the passenger was wearing a seatbelt, while the driver was not. FHP also believes the same vehicle was involved in a separate, non-injury crash at mile marker 69 shortly before the fatal collision. Both incidents remain under investigation.
