Roblox Faces Regulatory Scrutiny Over Child Safety Failures
Roblox is under renewed scrutiny regarding its child safety measures, with Australia’s eSafety commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, stating that the platform continues to fail in adequately protecting children from unwanted adult contact. Despite Roblox implementing changes last fall to prevent adults from messaging unknown children, independent audits revealed significant vulnerabilities. These audits found that adult strangers could still send connection requests to children, whose profiles, biographies, account names, connections, and interests were publicly visible without an option to restrict this information. Furthermore, adults could search for children and comment on their posts in forums outside game environments without parental consent.
