Blair, Wisconsin Home Declared Public Health Threat Due to Severe Rat Infestation
A home on West Broadway Street in Blair, Wisconsin, has been declared an "imminent threat to public health" by Trempealeau County health officials due to a severe rat infestation. Blair Police Chief Kent Johnson was alerted to the problem by a neighbor last week, prompting an emergency city meeting to discuss abatement efforts. The house exhibits structural and fire concerns, including a collapsed porch floor and a foundation crack that allows rats access into the walls. Professional cleaning crews will be required to remove belongings from the property. Despite the conditions, the homeowner is currently allowed to remain on the property, with alternative housing options being made available. The homeowner is cooperating fully with the cleanup process, which is expected to last two weeks, with a follow-up by the health department in 30 days.
