China's Satellite Technology Highlights U.S. Dependence on Rare Metals
China has launched the Ludi Tance-4 01 radar satellite, which utilizes gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors, a rare metal predominantly supplied by China. This satellite can provide continuous surveillance over a third of the Earth's surface, a capability the U.S. has struggled to achieve. China's dominance in GaN production, a critical component for advanced defense systems, poses a challenge for the U.S., especially as China has restricted gallium exports following Western semiconductor curbs.
