Two U.S. Service Members Missing After Military Exercises in Morocco, Search Underway
Two U.S. service members are missing in southwestern Morocco following their participation in the African Lion military exercises, according to the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). The incident occurred near the Cap Draa Training Area, a region characterized by mountainous and semi-desert terrain. The soldiers were reportedly on a recreational hike after the day's exercises had concluded. A joint search and rescue operation involving U.S. and Moroccan personnel has been launched, utilizing helicopters, ships, and mountain rescue units. The African Lion exercise, which began in April and involves over 7,000 personnel from more than 30 nations, is the largest U.S. annual joint military exercise on the continent, aimed at strengthening regional security cooperation.
