The discovery was announced by the Nineveh Antiquities Inspectorate and Iraq’s Antiquities and Heritage State Board. The stele has been moved to the Inspectorate’s headquarters for restoration and further study.

The Salcombe wreck sites have previously yielded a large collection of Bronze Age artifacts, indicating active trade and long-distance sea travel between Britain and mainland Europe over 3,000 years ago. The sword is currently undergoing conservation and will be studied further to provide more insights into Bronze Age seafaring and trade routes.
