Oxford's Malaria Vaccine Trial Shows Favorable Safety and Antibody Responses, Validating ExpreS2 Platform
Oxford's Phase Ia trial BIO-002, which investigates the malaria antigen RH5.1, has reported positive results regarding safety and antibody responses. The trial demonstrated that a standard dose of the vaccine provided immunogenicity comparable to a higher dose, indicating efficient and scalable manufacturing potential. This development is part of ExpreS2ion Biotech's partner-driven infectious disease programs, which utilize their proprietary ExpreS2 protein expression platform. The platform is based on genetically modified Drosophila Schneider-2 cells and is also being used for other infectious disease programs, including Nipah virus and influenza, in addition to the company's lead oncology candidate, ES2B-C001. Recruitment for another Oxford-led malaria trial, VAC-099, has also been completed, further highlighting ongoing efforts in malaria research.
