Neumos Security Staff Form Union Amidst Labor Law Challenges
Security staff at Neumos, Barboza, and the Runaway have announced the formation of the Neumos Security Union, a separate entity from the Neumos Workers United group. This move comes in response to the Taft-Hartley Act, which prevents security guards from joining the same union as other workers unless voluntarily recognized by the owners. The unionization effort aims to address issues such as understaffing, which has led to unsafe working conditions and incidents requiring hospitalization. The Neumos Security Union represents around 40 staffers across three venues operated by Fokus Industries. Despite successful negotiations for better conditions and pay, organizers like Charlie Capps and Ozi Goldstein emphasize that more work is needed to ensure safe staffing levels.
