Oakland County Water Main Break Prompts State of Emergency and Boil-Water Advisories
A significant water main break in Oakland County, Michigan, has led Governor Gretchen Whitmer to declare a state of emergency. The break occurred in a 42-inch transmission main at River Woods Park in Auburn Hills, affecting several communities including Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Orion Township, Lake Orion, and Oakland Township. The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) reported that the break happened early on May 10, disrupting water service and prompting boil-water advisories. Residents in affected areas are advised to restrict water use to essential needs, and nonessential businesses may face water shutoffs. The emergency declaration allows for additional state resources and financial assistance to be deployed. Crews are working to repair the break, but a full restoration of service is expected to take at least 14 days.
