President Trump to Posthumously Award Welles Crowther the Presidential Medal of Freedom
President Trump announced that Welles Remy Crowther, a hero of the September 11 attacks, will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The announcement was made during a rally in Rockland County, New York, in support of U.S. Representative Mike Lawler's re-election campaign. Crowther, known as 'the man in the red bandana,' was an equities trader who worked at the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2001, he used his signature red bandana to shield his face from smoke as he led people to safety from the South Tower, ultimately saving 18 lives before perishing in the tower's collapse. Crowther's mother, Alison Crowther, was present at the rally and expressed gratitude for the recognition of her son's heroism.
