Colombia's New President Advocates for Oil and Gas Amid Energy Transition
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has announced a shift in the country's energy policy, emphasizing the importance of oil and gas while also supporting a gradual transition to renewable energy. During his inauguration, de la Espriella highlighted the need for energy security and self-sufficiency, stating that the transition to cleaner energy should not undermine the oil and gas industry. This marks a departure from the previous administration's focus on renewable energy and environmental protection. The new president plans to expand oil and gas exploration, authorize fracking, and strengthen the state-owned energy company Ecopetrol.
