Everglades Wildfire Burns Nearly 5,000 Acres Near Miami Metro
A wildfire, named the Max Road Miramar Fire, has burned approximately 4,800 acres in Florida's Everglades, near the Miami metro area and Broward County. The fire, which is only 20% contained, is causing significant smoke hazards for nearby residents. According to the Florida Forest Service, the fire is straddling the boundary between Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Aerial footage shows flames near a local subdivision, with smoke visible for miles. This wildfire is part of Florida's ongoing wildfire season, which has been exacerbated by a historic drought. The state is currently experiencing Exceptional or Extreme Drought conditions, with parts of the Everglades particularly affected. Miami itself is about an inch below its average rainfall for the year. Officials are working to protect nearby properties and have urged residents to follow road closure advisories.
