Tropical Storm Bertha Fuels East Coast Flood Threat
Tropical Storm Bertha, currently south of the Louisiana coast with sustained winds of 45 mph, is expected to maintain its strength until it reaches the upper Texas coast late Thursday. The storm will dissipate over Texas by Thursday night or Friday. However, a plume of tropical moisture associated with Bertha is intensifying a cold front stretching across southeast Virginia, the Carolinas, and northern Georgia. This interaction is creating a significant flood threat in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated amounts up to 6 inches, are expected along the Texas Gulf Coast and South Texas. Meanwhile, areas in Virginia, North Carolina, and surrounding states could see a month's worth of rain in just a few days, exacerbating the risk of flash flooding.
