Big Bear Bald Eagles Jackie and Shadow Welcome Two New Eaglets
In Big Bear Valley, the bald eagle couple Jackie and Shadow have successfully hatched two eaglets over the weekend. The first eaglet emerged from its shell around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV). The second eaglet followed approximately 12 hours later on Sunday morning. The hatching process, known as 'pipping,' involves the chick breaking through the internal membrane and eggshell to take its first breath. The eaglets are being cared for by their parents, who feed them small pieces of fish and other prey. Jackie and Shadow have been under public observation for years, thanks to a nest camera set up by FOBBV, which provides a live stream of their activities. This pair has previously parented eaglets in 2019, 2022, and 2025. The eaglets are expected to grow rapidly, reaching about three feet in height within two months.
