Central African Republic President Honors UAE CEO for Infrastructure Project
Faustin-Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic (CAR), has bestowed the rank of Commander of the Order of Central African Merit, the nation's highest civil order, upon Ali Alshimmari. Alshimmari is the Managing Director and CEO of UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSU). This recognition follows GSU's successful completion of the largest infrastructure project in CAR's history: a 50MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Sakaï, which includes 15MWh of battery storage. The project, delivered in just 10 months, has increased the country's electricity generation capacity by over 60%. It is projected to supply electricity to more than 300,000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 50,000 tonnes annually. Alshimmari expressed gratitude for the honor, attributing the achievement to the collaborative efforts and the vision of UAE's leadership, as well as the support from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, which provided concessional financing.
