LAPD Arrests Scores of Minibike Riders on 6th Street Bridge, Impounds Bikes
Los Angeles police successfully thwarted a planned takeover of the 6th Street Bridge by scores of minibike riders on Sunday. Officers from the LAPD, California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department corralled and arrested over 70 individuals, many of whom were minors. The group was observed operating unauthorized motorized minibikes, blocking the bridge, performing stunts like doughnuts and wheelies, riding on the wrong side of the road, and weaving through traffic. In total, 78 minibikes and pocket bikes were impounded during the operation in downtown L.A. Additionally, two vehicles were impounded for aiding and abetting the illegal activity. All violators were cited for riding illegal bikes on city streets, and parents of the juvenile offenders were notified to take custody of their children. This operation was based on intelligence received by the LAPD regarding the planned takeover.
