Air Quality Alert Issued for South Carolina Counties Due to Georgia Wildfires
An Air Quality Alert has been issued for several counties in South Carolina as smoke from wildfires in southern Georgia continues to affect the region. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has announced that the alert will remain in effect until Thursday. The counties affected include Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Sumter, Union, and Williamsburg. The alert indicates that fine particulate concentrations may reach unhealthy levels due to the smoke being pushed into the state by southerly winds.
