Beach Hazard Statement Issued for Lake Michigan Amid High Waves and Rip Currents
A beach hazard statement remains in effect for parts of the Chicago area along Lake Michigan due to high waves and dangerous rip currents. According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, strong northerly winds are churning the lake, creating hazardous swimming conditions expected to persist through the weekend. The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for Cook County in Illinois, as well as Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. Waves are forecasted to reach heights of 3 to 6 feet, posing significant risks to swimmers and those near the water. Residents are advised to avoid entering the water and to stay clear of piers, jetties, and other waterfront structures.
