Dam Failure Warning for 200,000 in Texas and New Mexico
An urgent flood watch has been issued for parts of western El Paso, Texas, and southern New Mexico due to concerns over the potential failure of the Cement Lake Dam, also known as the Portland Cement Reservoir. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that if the dam fails, it could lead to rapid and dangerous flooding downstream, affecting areas such as Downtown El Paso, Upper Valley, Sunland Park, Las Cruces, and other communities in southern Doña Ana County. The floodwaters could carry debris, including razor wire, posing additional hazards.
