In her upcoming memoir, 'View from the East Wing,' Jill Biden recounts a pivotal moment in July 2024 when then-Vice President Kamala Harris pressed President Joe Biden for an immediate endorsement for the 2024 Democratic nomination. This occurred after President Biden decided not to seek re-election, making him the first sitting president to do so since Lyndon Johnson in 1968. According to Jill Biden, Harris was insistent, likened to a 'courtroom prosecutor,' in her demand for a swift endorsement. Despite President Biden's suggestion to delay the announcement until the next morning, Harris urged for a quicker response, reportedly asking for a decision within 20 minutes. Ultimately, President Biden endorsed Harris shortly after announcing his withdrawal from the race, preventing a potential 'mini-primary' before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
