North Carolina High School Valedictorian's Speech Sparks Controversy Over Ye Reference
A valedictorian speech at Hoggard High School in North Carolina has become a point of contention after senior Kyler Hosek included a reference to rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. During his speech, Hosek quoted Ye, saying, 'Every human being has something of value that they bring to the table,' a statement Ye made during a controversial interview with Infowars founder Alex Jones in December 2022. The reference drew attention because Ye's original comment included a glorification of Adolf Hitler, which sparked widespread outrage at the time. Following Hosek's speech, fellow student Sara Rudeseal attempted to address the audience, pointing out the controversial nature of the original quote. She was subsequently cut off by school officials and did not receive her diploma on stage. The incident has raised questions about the appropriateness of the speech content and the school's response.
