Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Addresses Extradition of Fernando 'N' and Denies Son's Involvement in Fuel Smuggling
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has indicated that the extradition of Contralmirante Fernando 'N', alleged leader of a fiscal fuel smuggling network, is likely to proceed in the coming days. Fernando 'N' was detained in Argentina in April for entering the country with false documentation and has since been awaiting extradition or deportation. Separately, President Sheinbaum denied that her son, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, was under investigation by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) for alleged links to fuel smuggling, a claim made by opposition figures. She reiterated that the revocation of López Beltrán's U.S. visa was a 'political matter' and not related to criminal activities, suggesting that other individuals with alleged criminal ties are not subjected to similar scrutiny. The FGR later confirmed it has no legal basis or protected witnesses to investigate López Beltrán for hydrocarbon-related crimes, dismissing circulating journalistic information as false.
