Des Moines Police Chase Ends in Crash Near McKinley Elementary, Suspect at Large
McKinley Elementary School in Des Moines was placed on a 90-minute 'secure status' after a suspect, involved in a police chase in a stolen car, crashed near the school and fled on foot. According to Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the Des Moines Police Department, the incident occurred when the suspect crashed into a pole at SE 4th Street and Hartford Avenue. Following the crash, the individual ran towards the area of the school, prompting school officials to implement the secure status, meaning no one was allowed to enter or exit the building. Classes inside the elementary school continued as normal during this period. The secure status was lifted around 2:30 p.m., and dismissal proceeded at the usual time. Police are currently searching the neighborhood for the suspect.
