Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Saved from Shutdown by Venetoulis Institute Acquisition
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has been acquired by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism, preventing its imminent closure. The acquisition was finalized just weeks before the paper was set to publish its final edition. The Venetoulis Institute, which also publishes the Baltimore Banner, plans to continue the Post-Gazette's print editions twice a week. The sale follows a period of financial losses and labor disputes, with the paper's parent company, Block Communications, announcing earlier this year that it would cease operations. The acquisition ensures that the Post-Gazette will remain a key source of local news in Pittsburgh.
