Japan Introduces Digital Nomad Visa for U.S. Remote Workers
Japan has launched a new Digital Nomad visa, allowing U.S. citizens to reside and work remotely in the country for up to six months. This visa caters to individuals employed by foreign companies or serving clients outside Japan, explicitly prohibiting work for Japanese entities. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate an annual income of at least JPY 10 million (approximately USD 67,000) and possess comprehensive private medical or travel insurance with a minimum of JPY 10 million in medical treatment coverage for injury or illness. The United States is currently on Japan's list of eligible countries, which is based on short-stay visa-exemption arrangements and applicable tax conventions.
