China Approves Four New Nuclear Projects, Expanding Energy Capacity
China has approved four new nuclear power projects with a combined investment exceeding $25 billion. These projects include Phase II of the Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant in Zhejiang Province, Phase III of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong Province, the Zhuanghe Nuclear Power Plant in Liaoning Province, and the Laiyang Nuclear Power Plant in Shandong Province. The expansion will add eight new nuclear power generating units, featuring the upgraded Hualong One Version 2.0 technology at the Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant. This move marks the beginning of China's regular domestic nuclear project approvals for 2026, continuing its rapid pace of nuclear expansion.
