AI-generated posts depicting fake earthquake reports are circulating widely on social media platforms, particularly Facebook. These posts feature detailed satellite maps with highlighted roads and cities, accompanied by captions that mimic official alerts, emphasizing safety and alertness. However, the information presented in these graphics, including the seismic data and emergency recommendations, is entirely fabricated. The AI tools used to create these posts often distort state maps to fit vertical video formats, and the accompanying text follows a copy-and-paste formula, swapping out state names and using alarmist language to exploit emotions and curiosity. Lead Stories has identified numerous such posts, noting that they are designed to go viral through made-up content, often referred to as 'AI-slop.'
