King Charles III and Prince William are facing a potential bill of up to £10 million to upgrade hundreds of rental homes on their private estates to meet upcoming government energy-efficiency standards. An investigation by The Guardian revealed that nearly nine out of ten domestic properties across the Duchy of Cornwall, the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Sandringham estate currently hold energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings of D or below. New regulations, set to be fully implemented by 2030, will require rental properties to achieve an EPC rating of C or higher, an increase from the current minimum of E. The estimated cost for these upgrades is around £10,000 per property, with potential fines of £30,000 for each non-compliant home still being let.
