Macklemore's $1 Million Pledge Boosts Palestinian Aid Groups and Public Awareness
Rapper Macklemore has pledged his net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour, totaling $1 million, to six Palestinian relief nonprofits. This donation follows his removal from the tour after making pro-Palestinian comments onstage. The beneficiaries include Medical Aid for Palestinians, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). Leaders of these organizations, such as Alicia Phillips Mandaville, acting CEO of Anera, and Tareq Hailat, director of strategic engagement at Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, emphasized that the financial contribution, which comes with no restrictions on its use, is crucial for addressing the evolving circumstances in Gaza. They also highlighted the significant increase in public awareness and attention to the perilous living conditions faced by Palestinians, with Hailat noting constant calls for help from Gaza amidst ongoing dangers and a lack of essential resources.
