Domtar Mill Fire in Cross City Disrupts Operations and Community
The Domtar Mill in Cross City, Florida, experienced a significant fire early Sunday morning, affecting the mill's dry kiln. Known locally as the old Suwannee Lumber Mill, it is the largest private employer in Dixie County. The fire prompted a substantial response from local fire crews, who utilized water from a nearby gas station to combat the blaze. The incident caused temporary disruptions in water service at the gas station, affecting its operations. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all employees were safely evacuated. The fire resulted in heavy damage to the kiln building, and the company is expected to release more information soon.
