Israeli Authorities Intensify Efforts as West Nile Virus Detected in Mosquitoes
In southern Israel, the West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes, prompting local authorities to enhance prevention, monitoring, and public awareness efforts. The Health Ministry and the Environmental Protection Ministry have confirmed the presence of the virus in the Tamar Regional Council area. This discovery has led to increased mosquito control measures across the country. Since the beginning of the year, six cases of West Nile fever have been diagnosed in Israel. The risk of further outbreaks is heightened between June and November, coinciding with peak mosquito activity. The virus, transmitted to humans through mosquito bites, is not spread from person to person. Most cases are mild, but serious complications can occur, particularly in vulnerable populations such as older adults and those with weakened immune systems.
