Lenexa Fire Officials Attribute Apartment Blaze to Preventable Stovetop Negligence
Lenexa, Kansas, fire officials have determined that an apartment fire at 12002 W. 77th Street was easily preventable, caused by combustible materials left on the stovetop. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, prompting a response from the Lenexa and Shawnee fire departments, along with Johnson County Med-Act officials, at 5:35 a.m. During the emergency, Lenexa police officers evacuated two individuals, while fire crews utilized a ground ladder to help two more escape from an upper-story window. A fifth occupant was carried out from a second-floor unit, assessed for injuries, and transported to a local hospital, from which they have since been released. Additionally, one firefighter sustained a minor knee injury during the operation.
