Beef Demand and Dietary Guidelines Boost Optimism for U.S. Cattle Producers
Colin Woodall, CEO of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), has expressed optimism for U.S. cattle producers, citing strong consumer demand for beef and supportive dietary guidelines. The Trump administration's new Dietary Guidelines emphasize the role of whole foods and protein, including beef, in a healthy diet. This endorsement, along with Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s focus on real food, has bolstered consumer confidence in beef products. Despite historically low cattle herd levels, Woodall believes that herd rebuilding is contingent on weather conditions rather than market incentives. He points to improving weather forecasts, such as the predicted Super El Niño, as a reason for optimism, suggesting that moisture and green grass will encourage producers to expand their herds.
