White Sands Missile Range Supports Las Cruces 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and Ceremony
White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Garrison Commander Col. Michael Lueckeman served as the guest speaker at New Mexico State University’s (NMSU) 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and Ceremony. The event, held at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, honored the victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Col. Lueckeman, an NMSU alumnus, reflected on how the attacks reshaped the nation and influenced his military service. Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, a former fire chief, also spoke, recalling the emotions of the day and the courage of first responders. Participants included NMSU ROTC cadets, NMSU police and fire personnel, City of Las Cruces police and firefighters, veterans, and community members. Following the ceremony, attendees climbed the stadium stairs in remembrance of those who ascended the World Trade Center towers.
