Two Storm Systems Bring Wind and Rain to Alaska, Temperatures Slowly Warm
Two storm systems are currently impacting Alaska, bringing significant wind and rain, particularly to coastal regions. The first system is affecting the Aleutians, while a second low-pressure area is moving into the Gulf of Alaska and Southeast. Coastal areas are experiencing wet and windy conditions, which are expected to intensify through Sunday. Wind gusts are reaching 50 miles per hour in the central and eastern Aleutians, with a Wind Advisory in effect. Kodiak has already seen gusts near 56 miles per hour, and Southeast Alaska, from Sitka south, is anticipating gusts up to 45 miles per hour overnight Saturday into Sunday. Heavy rainfall is expected, with Southeast Alaska, including Sitka and Ketchikan, projected to receive up to 2 inches by Tuesday morning, and Juneau potentially seeing up to 5 inches. Despite the wet weather, temperatures are slowly rising as warmer air moves in from the south, with overnight lows remaining above freezing in Southcentral and Southeast Alaska.
