Kansas Sees Surge in Hyperscale Data Center Developments Amid Local Concerns
Kansas is experiencing a significant increase in hyperscale data center developments, with several projects underway or proposed. The Beale Data Center, the state's first hyperscale data center campus, is currently under construction in De Soto, with site preparations for the first two buildings already approved. Digital Realty, a major player in the data center industry, has proposed a multiphase data center campus at Astra Enterprise Park in De Soto, which is under review by the city. These developments follow legislative actions by the Kansas state Legislature, which passed a sales tax bill to facilitate such projects. However, these rapid developments have sparked concerns among residents and local leaders, who feel blindsided and are calling for more protective measures.
