GasLog LNG Carrier Damaged in Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Maritime Security Concerns
A GasLog-operated LNG carrier, the GasLog Shanghai, sustained damage while exiting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint. The incident occurred on July 31, as reported by GasLog, which confirmed that all crew members are safe and the vessel remains stable. The company has activated its emergency response plan and is assessing the damage while prioritizing crew safety. This event coincides with two separate security incidents reported by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) near the Strait of Hormuz. One incident involved a tanker struck by an unknown projectile, causing damage to its engine room, while another tanker reported a nearby explosion. Both incidents are under investigation, and it remains unclear if they are connected to the GasLog Shanghai incident.
