Forgotten Harvest Expands Food Distribution to Address Macomb County Food Deserts
Forgotten Harvest, a nonprofit organization, is actively expanding its food distribution sites in Macomb County, Michigan, to address areas identified as food deserts. The organization currently operates 27 distribution sites in Macomb County, significantly fewer than the 193 sites spread across neighboring Oakland and Wayne counties. Kelli Kaschimer, Director of Client Services at Forgotten Harvest, stated that census data indicated Macomb County was underserved. The expansion efforts include discussions with Selfridge to establish a distribution site for military families and a focus on townships and cities north of 23 Mile Road, where pantry representation is limited. Conquerors Church in Clinton Township has recently partnered with Forgotten Harvest, distributing a variety of food items weekly to local families, highlighting the urgent need observed by Reverend Sam Moore, senior pastor.
