California Enacts Legislation Prohibiting Online Puppy Delivery to Combat Deceptive Sales
California has passed new legislation that will prohibit the delivery of puppies to California addresses when purchased through online platforms, effective January 1, 2026. This measure is designed to address deceptive mill-sourced pet sales and unethical practices within the pet industry. The law specifically targets online platforms, preventing them from facilitating the direct reservation of puppies between a breeder and California residents. While online delivery will cease, residents will still have lawful alternatives for acquiring puppies, such as arranging pickup or delivery outside of California. Until December 31, 2025, full delivery service to California addresses for online puppy purchases remains available.
